Journaling My Life Away

Hi guys!

alljournals

I’ve recently began a very fulfilling pastime: journaling. I was inspired to start journaling after reading Vanessa Michele’s post here. She made a lot of great suggestions and specifically gave me the idea to start a prayer journal, which I thought was amazing!!! Her lovely lifestyle blog is full of food, inspiration, and hair posts- you should definitely check it out. 🙂 A lot of my friends journal as well so I decided to give it a try. I found 3/4 of these journals at Marshall’s by their recommendation. After doing it only briefly, I’m already in love. It’s a great way for me to get my thoughts out and stay sane during the oh-so- stressful moments. So I thought I’d share with you all some ideas for you to journal your lives away as well.

Personal Journal:

This is the journal where I write down all my thoughts. I guess it’s kinda of like the classic diary. When I’m feeling sad, angry, or insecure, I jot down those feelings. Being able to channel these emotions somewhere makes it 10x easier for me to cope. I don’t have the overwhelmed feeling anymore, because my feelings aren’t all bottomed up. Don’t get me wrong- this journal isn’t all despair. I write down the happy little moments too. I can’t wait to look back in 6 months or a year and remember those happy memories. I have an archive of not just the painful lows, but also the amazing highs as well. The message on the front reminds me of what I want: to follow my own path. I am not the opinions, expectations, or ideas of someone else. I’m a unique person who is here to forge her own path.

Prayer Journal:

As I said, I got this idea from the wonderful Vanessa Michele, and I’m so grateful. This journal is where I write down my relationship with God. It contains notes from church and bible study. But it also contains my favorite bible verses, and a list of people who are in need of prayer. It allows me to put my heart and my feelings on paper. And I love it, because I feel like it’s strengthened my relationship with God so much. It’s easy in college to get swept away by crazy things, but writing in this journal keeps me in focus. I can’t wait to continue writing, studying, and growing closer to him. The message on the front is: live every day with intention- which I think is spot on. I want to live each day with intention and use every single ounce of potential that God has blessed me with.

Career Journal:

I have a lot of career goals and aspirations, and they’re not small. It can be easy to get discouraged or distracted at times though. So I thought that having a journal solely dedicated to my goals would help me maintain focus. I write down my all my goals for school and my career. HOW exactly I can get where I want to go? What do I need to do to be successful in my field? These are things that I document. Having my goals some place visible makes it so much easier to persevere through the tough times. When I begin to feel off balance, I can just look at this journal and remember that all the hard work will be worth it in the end. So any of you all suffering in school or work at the moment- know that your effort is meaningful.

Word Journal:

Because of the demanding nature of school I don’t have much time to read as much as I’d like to. The past few years I’ve noticed that my vocabulary has reached a plateau. So I decided that I would create a word journal full of new words that I come across. I don’t think that anyone can ever sound too eloquent, so I hope to gain a wider lexicon in the next few years. I carry it around with me everywhere (you can see it’s a bit worn already). 🙂

I hope I gave y’all some helpful ideas! I can’t wait to look back on my journals in a few years and see the growth that I’ve made as a person. Do you all have any other journaling ideas? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Love your career journal and your word journal. Im in academia and I’m constantly stumbling across new words or old words with different contextual meanings. I love looking for journals in Marshalls. Five Below also sells affordable journals. They tend to be more simple or extremely gaudy, but they get the job done. I think I’m going to separate the areas of my life into different journals. I sometimes put everything in my personal, which can get overwhelming.
